Current Workshop Descriptions

Wet Felting

In this workshop, participants will each take home a thoroughly felted and durable play scape suitable for small world play, storytelling or seasonal nature displays. Participants will learn how to take natural sheep’s wool and transform it into felt using a method of hot water, soap and friction. Participants should wear comfy clothes and be ready to roll up their sleeves to enjoy an interesting and therapeutic experience. All the materials needed for this workshop will be provided. Please allow 3 hours for this session.

Needle Felting

Participants will create an accessory for their play scape, such as a doll or animal, or a child’s ball. Participants will learn how to transform natural sheep’s wool into a felted toy using a needle. All the materials needed for this workshop will be provided. Please allow 2 hours for this session.

How to Support Toddlers in a Safe Environment

Participants will learn to be reflective and responsive to the needs of the toddlers in their care, as we together ask questions of ourselves about our programming, room design and practice. This workshop will include discussion on philosophy, toddler development, schemas, loose parts play and the social emotional support of toddlers. The presentation will include facilitated discussion and lots of pictures to inspire ideas and thinking.

Playing with Loose Parts: The Perfect Toy Solution for Toddlers

Participants will learn what Loose Parts are and why they are so suitable for the toddler age group. This fun workshop will include time to experience loose part play and participants will come away with great new ideas for their classroom.

Creating a “Yes” space for Toddlers

Toddlers hear the word “no” frequently. In this workshop participants will figure out ways to say YES! We will discuss ways to create a room design where educators can say, “Yes, you can climb there, and Yes, you can jump there, and Yes, you can move that.” The presentation will include facilitated discussion and lots of pictures to inspire ideas and thinking.
