3D Storytelling

Sometimes I look at a little book like this and I think 3D!!  Yes, I have to turn this story into a three dimensional play mat.  A felted one.  A wintry, wonderland that children can touch, and manipulate and use their imaginations with.  Yes, I definitely get inspired by books like this.....

I love the color!  Not just snow white, but turquoise and purple and blue!

So I bought a Schleich Mama Polar Bear and twin babies.  And made a mat for them to live on.

I find that caves add to the interactive play quality for little ones. They love putting them to sleep in there.

Hello, little seal pup!  You are just so cute.

Raffi's Baby Beluga book/song goes nicely with this play mat as well.

So,  just to be clear.  There are no penguins on this play mat.  While it might be tempting to put polar bears and penguins on the same mat, they don't belong together.  They literally live Poles apart.  Polar bears are in the Arctic and Penguins in the Antarctic.

I think that gives me all the more reason to create another winter scene for Penguins.  Stay tuned....
